Earth Day Events Planned

ICPL and the City of Iowa City Public Works Department/Landfill Division will celebrate Earth Day with events in April 2011.

On Thursday, April 14, business activist Elliott Hoffman will speak at 7 p.m. at ICPL.

On Monday, April 18, Teresa Kurtz, Executive Director of the Iowa Recycling Association, will present a lecture on “Recycling in Iowa” at 7 p.m. in Meeting Room A at ICPL.

ECO Iowa City’s own Jen Jordan, City of Iowa City Public Works Department, will speak on “Recycling in Iowa City” at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21 in Meeting Room A at ICPL.

Then join us Friday, April 22, on Earth Day, for an environmental fair at the Robert E. Lee Recreation Center from 3 to 6 p.m. in the social room. Come and learn about what environmental groups are doing in the Iowa City/Johnson County area.

On Saturday, April 30, at Grant Wood Elementary School, the Library and the Landfill, Engineers for a Sustainable World, the University of Iowa School of Pharmacy, and the Drug Enforcement Agency will sponsor another Take Back Day where the public can bring their expired and unused pharmaceuticals from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school parking lot.

On Monday, May 9, Brian Soenen and Carol Sweeting will speak on “Project AWARE and Iowa City Stream Clean-up Projects” at 7:30 p.m. in Meeting Room A at ICPL.
