by April Harder on March 5th, 2012

Thanks to Project Gutenberg, ICPL now offers nearly 500 classic eBook titles, all for free, and for you to keep.

Do you have an eReader such as a Kindle or Nook? Would you like free eBooks that you can keep forever? Then check out “e-Discover the Classics” at the Iowa City Public Library!

Thanks to Project Gutenberg, we now offer nearly 500 classic titles, all for free and for you to keep. These are public domain and other freely accessible works, available in a variety of formats. The “eDiscover the Classics” collection is available right now through our online catalog. Simply do a search for “Project Gutenberg.”

Once you find a title that you want, click on the “Access Online” link under “Status.” You will be taken to the Project Gutenberg page for that title, and it will list all of the formats that the title is available in. Click on the appropriate format and save the file to your computer. Connect your eReader to your computer and move the file into the eReader’s documents folder. Now disconnect the device and enjoy!
